The main problem in high school to CC and CSU transition in STEM fields. Until recently, students with weak preparation could be required to take remedial courses; now they can only be recommended as a result of recent legislative action. How to deal with this problem at low cost and at scale is an urgent concern, since students with weak preparation drop out of STEM programs at alarmingly high rates.
