Your first time to the ELC can be daunting! Here are some things you might want to know to make your time as useful as possible.
Meeting Structure
Unless something special is happening, our meetings always take place on a Thursday and Friday, once per semester. They are hosted at whichever institution is gracious enough to volunteer as host for the year.
Thursdays are typically reserved for announcements and workshops that would be of interest to all parties. Fridays are when the business occurs; we meet to discuss future plans of action for engineering education.
Who Should Come?
Anyone interested in engineering education! While most of us are engineering professors, we have a number of deans, counselors, and other interested parties come as well. As we all have the shared interest in making engineering education more accessible to all, we value input from as many perspectives as we can get.
Learn the Language
When we launch into discussion, it can be fast and confusing. Use our glossary page to quickly figure out what all those darn acronyms mean!
Dress is Business Casual
We are made up of mostly engineering professors, and we are all from California, so we definitely don’t dress to the nines. Feel free to dress how you might dress to teach your class. A full suit is not necessary.
Come to Dinner
The best time to network, exchange ideas, and get to know each other is at the Thursday night dinner. Nearly every attendee comes to dinner! It’s also the one time we get to network and catch up with each other.
